AUSTRALIAN AIRLINE WARS HOT UP
The battle lines were already drawn in the Australian domestic air fare wars but with increased pressure for the travel dollar all the major Airlines are trying everything to get you on their jet.
We'll explore a little more of this later. Today's post is about Australia's newest entrant Tiger who has taken 15% market share away from Virgin in recent times through offering very, very cheap fares.TIGER Australia has announced that it see's it's future as offering FREE flights with everything else as an add on. That means paying for: check in, luggage, food and drink along with taxes. Even still this would mean you could get from domestic cities for as little as $50 all day any day. One draw back? You may well find yourself standing to fly....as Tiger is now investigating the possibility of being the first Airline in Australia to use the innovative if not slightly uncomfortable vertical 'seating' as pioneered by Ryan Air. This wouldn't be too bad for short and cheap flights but anything over an hour long would be very interesting, anyway you get what you pay for as they say.
One other recent development for the better is that finally after huge lines and ongoing complaints Tiger have introduced internet check in, which is free and you don't have to get to the airport two (yes 2) hours early anymore. I tried it yesterday and it was a massive improvement.
Vertical for free or would you rather sit and pay?
Would you fly standing from Sydney to Perth for $50?
How do rate Tiger's service?Feel free to drop a comment or send us an email with your thoughts at urbanglobetrotter@gmail.com
